Threats of bodily harm may be actionable under criminal law and should be reported immediately to local law enforcement authorities. In addition to contacting law enforcement, you may consider contacting your local phone company if the threat was made over the telephone or contacting the sender's Internet Service Provider (ISP) if the threat was made through email.
If you received a threat through email, you may also be able to block the sender's incoming messages. This is a feature provided by most email programmes. Please consult the help section of your email programme on information on how to block messages. If you cannot block the email, simply do not reply or respond.
IWAC will take action in cases where an explicit intent to inflict physical harm is stated in an email message. Please be aware that IWAC is unable to act on implied or perceived threats. If the message does not include a direct threat, please see the Offensive or Unwelcome Email page for more information on the options available to you.
To report a threat of bodily harm send a copy of the email with the full header attached.
Breaches of this policy can result in a range of actions, including:
- Listing cancellation
- Forfeit of IWAC fees on cancelled listings
- Limits on account privileges
- Account suspension
